Advantages of becoming an airhostess
Good things first. Let us talk about what are the perks waiting for you if you become an air-hostess. Educational consultancies may give vague and exaggerated explanations of the career. But we at pilot18.com, prefer to be realistic. So, counting from 1, let us discuss the best parts.
1. Travel around the world, or at least the country.
Flights travel across the globe, so does you too. In between long flights, you will get one or 2 days layover. With your privilege pass, you can roam around and visit nearby places. Anyway, don’t imagine too much. Unless your flight is going to some tourist destination, you wont be able to enjoy the beauty of the place fully.
2. World class food, safety and salary
Aviation is a prestigious industry. You will be provided with world class food at modest restaurants of the city. So you dont have to worry much about your appetite. Safety in job is of utmost importance. Aviation is one of the least forgiving careers to mistakes. Simple mistakes from human beings resulted in major air crashes of history. So, safety is of highest priority including personal safety. That means, you are safe at work. New rules came recently protecting interests of air crew, that indecent behaviour from passengers result in heavy penalties to passengers, making the environment more safe to work with. Salary of air-hostesses are high compared with jobs of equivalent qualification. Even starting salaries are in the range of 25,000 to 35,000 Rs, per month, in domestic services in India. In the high end, it ranges somewhere between 1.5 lakhs to 3 lakhs per month depending on the airlines and type of flight.
3. Low cost of training (Fees)
Normally, aviation related courses are very costly. Pilot training, for example costs a tiny 50 lakhs+ Rupees. Aircraft maintenance engineering costs 7-10 lakhs, aeronautical engineering costs similar 7-10 lakhs and so on. However, Air hostess training costs somewhere between 50,000 Rs to 2 lakh Rupees, based on duration and additional qualifications you get.
4. Availability of loans
Being an not so huge amount, it is easy to avail loans for training. From personal loans to educational loans, interests range between 6% to 13% per year. Good training colleges provide faster placements based on your performance, making it easier to repay loans from your own salary itself.
Disadvantages
While we discuss advantages, we must discuss about disadvantages too, making it a fair deal. The most important disadvantage is you work away from home. Though flights are fast, you may not be able to reach home in an emergency.
Potential risks are there in any job, so as in this. Hi-jacking, inherent risks of air travel are the main among them. If you consider flying as a thrilling adventure, better add this point to the list of advantages.
You must be fair. No offences here, it is a known fact that airhostesses are all good looking with fair complexion. Bluntly it means no place for dark and physically challenged. As per rule, there is no such distinction, but companies always prefer the prettiest girls.
Age bar. Age is a deciding factor for this job. As you know, it is hard to find air-hostesses aged more than 40 years, in reputed airlines. That means, this job is for you when you are young, energetic, smart and active. Hope you understood what I mean. You must posses all these qualities to become an air-hostess. You may be kicked out of the job anytime after 40 years of age. Recommended age for joining the career is 18-26 years. So, if you wish to become an airhostess, better start your training when you are 16 or 17 years old.
Not for the orthodox. If you are too orthodox in your thinking and behaviour, this career is certainly not for you. It is for the open-minded, socially active people who think liberally. If you are from a strict orthodox family, your family members may not like the way yout talk, dress and behave with your customers. So, think before you leap.
You meet people, but… Yea, I told before that you get opportunities to meet many high profile people. But for what? Will it be useful to you in developing your career? Probably not. A young business man, meeting another business tycoon means, the young can learn something from the tycoon. But what is the use of an air-hostess meeting a business man? The only probable benefit is his good comments which can add a white-mark in your career. Nothing more.
Don’t be creative. If you have art or creativity in your mind, just lock it there. In this job, you are supposed to follow the instructions set by the airline. You will be taught what to tell and how to tell, how to walk, how to greet others etc. So no creativity at all.
Moody? doesn’t matter. Work with a smile. You may have mood swings just like any human being. But you are not supposed to show them to the passengers. Greet them and talk to them with a smile, even if you have grief in your mind. Of course you can take leave or a day off, but when you are at work, you are supposed to be with a pleasant smile.

You may select from any of these as you wish. For jobs, it doesn’t actually matter much.
