Types of Pilot Licenses in India

2. Private Pilot License (PPL)

Allows you to fly privately but NOT commercially. Approx 50 hours of flying is required. It is just a hobby license which will enable you to flying smaller aircraft up to a maximum take off mass of 5700 kgs and with certain restrictions.

3. Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

Minimum 200 flying hours required and 6 exams cleared to get a commercial pilot license. Qualification is 10+2 with physics and maths. Minimum age for applying is 18 years.

4. Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL)

Highest level license required to become a Captain in airlines. Require CPL + 1500 hours of flying experience with certain further criteria. Minimum age for applying is 21 years.

5. FRTOL

Flight Radio Telephony Operator’s License – mandatory for radio communication. Usually earned during the early phase of flying training, just after getting your SPL.

6. RTR (A)
